Hot Stone

What is a hot stone massage?

A hot stone massage is a form of Thermotherapy (heat) treatment in which smooth basalt stones are applied to the body in combination with massage techniques. The varying sizes and shapes used in conjunction with massage bring about relaxation, relief to sore muscles, and ease chronic or stress-related conditions. A hot stone massage is both deeply relaxing and therapeutic at the same time. Both the heat and weight of the stones help loosen tight muscles and soothe trigger points in the body. Muscles are relieved without deep tissue work as the heat penetrates the areas needing release. “Deep Tissue” massage is essentially carried out without the need for excessive pressure or causing the client to increase pain to achieve the same results from a deep tissue massage treatment.

What can I expect to feel during and after my treatment?

Stones are introduced safely and confidently on clients using fast and fluid strokes initially to transfer the heat from stone to client. The techniques are slowed to a less stimulating tempo as the skin as muscles absorb the heat and cool the stones. Superficial and deep muscle layers are relieved without the need for deep tissue work as the heat penetrates the areas needing a release. Clients describe feelings of extreme well being, happiness, tiredness, and pain reduction after a hot stone massage.

How often should I receive treatments?

Hot stone massage can be made a regular part of your healthcare regime. Individual treatment plans and protocols are created by our massage therapists for clients with specific goals or seeking treatment of an ailment. 4 Elements Massage Clinic recommends a hot stone massage every 2 – 4 weeks to maintain a client’s optimal health.
